Across The City

Freedom or Not was set up in London in the late
90's by singer Salvo Rizzuto, guitarist Cliff Charles
and bass player Anna Piva.
Freedom or Not represent a combination of a
natural Mediterranean vibe and a strongly deep
passion for american "black music".
Its main reference points
are in the tradition of soul and funk from
Otis Redding to James Brown and it was
with this in mind that Salvo started to look
for the most suitable partners.
Freedom or Not: passionate romanticism,
a" black" voice and a sound which brings
together both roots and feelings.
Cliff Charles, a remarkable musician who
played with East 17, Gabrielle, and China Black
to name but a few and who declares to be
almost completely inspired by Jimi Hendrix.
Anna Piva, essential element of the band is an
extraordinary virtuoso bass player who comes
from the Bologna new wave school and after
settling in London,worked and recorded material
with the likes of Paul Weller, Yazz, Duffy, Tricky
and many more.

Originally released in 1997 the Album and the
single 'Feel it" did very well in main land Europe
charting in various club charts during
1997/1998.
Freedom or Not also toured extensively up to
2001-visiting most European countries
including Russia.
